Practicing yoga with Gina has been a pretty amazing journey for me. I was hesitant when I began, but thru her compassionate guidance I took a leap into a way of being. Since I am a larger woman, (writing that although true is not easy), I used to shy away from exercise classes because I worried about being “too big” to do what’s asked. I always thought of yoga as a skinny & fit arena that I had no place in. I needed a positive, judgement free zone in order to begin working towards a healthier me. Practicing with Gina, I let down my walls because I felt supported and respected. She showed me yoga has no size, weight or ability limits. You start your practice from wherever you are and you take it from there. From that place, as you practice, you build strength and grow confidence. This has been so empowering to me and in my life.
Speaking about life, let’s say it tends to happen in unpredictable ways. We’ve all had those days that are tough to get thru or just plain defeating. But instead of giving up yoga grew with me. It started with learning to breathe, how to let myself breathe and how to breathe, again. In a few words I experienced a devastating physical trauma where my breath was taken from me. I had to actually think about breathing. Something I did automatically for all my life and took for granted (who even thinks about breathing?). Once I began to build my strength, I had to get over the fear of not being able to breathe! Whew. Yoga gave me back my breath. It calmed my mind when it was shaking from fear. It helped me get through the periods of anxiety of depression that came with my recovery too.
What makes Gina’s teaching unique is how easy it is to connect with her and trust her practice. She offers modifications and also pushes when you need a challenge. She’s so skilled at what she does and can offer her expertise in many ways. From breath work, beginning postures to advanced practice and prenatal, she has been my mentor thru every stage. I practiced yoga during pregnancy and post-partum. It helped me get back to me.
Yoga has changed my life…one breath at a time.
